Since 2015, The Greenville Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence have served the Upstate by creating and maintaining safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. Whether it is educating on safer sex practices, blocking out the bigotry and negativity of anti-LGBT protestors, advocating for equal access to public spaces, or just hanging out in and enjoying creative expression, we are here for our community.
While the over-arching mission of the Worldwide Order of Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is, "Promulgation of Universal Joy and Expiation of Stigmatic Guilt", we are responsive to our community and focus our attention on matters that are most important to our community and fully utilize the individual strengths and calling of our members.
The Abbey of the Grand Palmetto
Through grassroots activism, educational outreach, coalition-building, and the use of theatrical camp, The Abbey of the Grand Palmetto creates safe space for self-expression and identity. Our ministry of joy, unconditional love, and acceptance allows us to integrate those traditionally disenfranchised and marginalized members of society and create a community that is rich in diversity, mutual respect, and harmony.
The world's first sex-positive, safer sex pamphlet was created in 1982 by Sisters Roz Erection and Florence Nightmare, both registered nurses.
Honoring the work started by Sisters Roz and Florence, we have updated our Play Fair! campaign to reflect current safer sex information, tools, practices, and modern design.
